Devan grew up in a small town in Northern British Columbia, where a deep connection to nature, community, and his Métis-Cree culture was shaped by his late father and grandfather. At 18, he moved to Vancouver to pursue music, a journey that began years earlier at 16—recording rap songs with friends in the back of his parents’ minivan. What started as a hobby grew into a decade-long pursuit, leading to the release of his final album in 2018 before stepping away from the spotlight. During that time, Devan discovered a passion behind the camera. What began on an iPhone evolved into a full creative path, and since 2018 he has built a career capturing people, places, and stories through photography. While his music career paused, his writing never did. In 2022, he began creating what would become his debut poetry album under a new, simplified name: Devan. The project explores themes of heartbreak, grief, self-discovery, and mental health—marking a deeply personal evolution both as an artist and as a person. Through both lens and language, Devan is driven to preserve moments and tell stories that outlive us.
